Alzheimer’s Awareness May Be Ending – But Prevention Is Year-Round

As June comes to a close, so does Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. Over the past few weeks, I’ve shared a series of thought-provoking blogs, newsletters and videos designed to shine a light on Alzheimer’s prevention — something we can all take more seriously.

I hope you’ve taken on board the message I’ve tried to convey: there may be no cure for Alzheimer’s, but that doesn’t mean we’re powerless. Prevention is the strongest tool we have, and it starts with our daily choices — what we eat, what we think, what we breathe in, and what we allow into our bodies and minds.

What We’ve Covered This Month

Throughout June, we’ve explored a wide range of factors that can influence brain health and cognitive decline — many of which aren’t often discussed in mainstream settings. These included:

  • Brain-boosting nutrients found in natural, unprocessed whole foods
  • Heavy metal detox strategies using foods like coriander, chlorella and spirulina
  • The power of mental stimulation and lifelong learning
  • The impact of alcohol and smoking on memory and brain function
  • How screen time overload and digital fatigue contribute to brain fog
  • The relationship between intermittent fasting and improved brain resilience
  • The dangers of environmental toxins in everyday household and personal care products
  • The essential role of sunlight and vitamin D in cognitive function
  • And most recently: the hidden hazards of fluoride in water and toothpaste, mercury in dental fillings, and ‘forever chemicals’ in non-stick cookware

These are critical issues — and yet, they’re not the kinds of conversations you’ll typically have at your doctor’s surgery. Most GPs won’t talk to you about the long-term impact of poor-quality water, fluoride-laden toothpaste or Teflon pans. That’s why functional nutrition and personalised, preventative approaches are so powerful.

The End of Awareness Month Is Not the End of the Conversation

Just because Alzheimer’s Awareness Month has come to an end, it doesn’t mean we should forget about it until next June. On the contrary — this is when the real work begins. Everything we’ve explored this month is information you can implement every day, not just in awareness weeks.

At Blue Zone Nutrition, I’ll continue to explore practical, preventative ways to support brain health naturally. The goal is always to empower you to make educated, confident decisions that truly support your wellbeing — without waiting for symptoms or relying solely on prescriptions.
